About

Who is Linda Faoro?
From an early age, Linda Faoro trained in  ballet, jazz , music and comedy.  She passed her State Dance Diploma in jazz, and, when very young, started to teach and choreograph in her own style, which she later called "Jazz New School."  Meanwhile, she also continued to train in other styles, including hip-hop, African dance, and bellydancing, to widen her range of action.  As a result, she has worked with many renowned companies as well as several TV shows.

In 2003, she created the troup "Les  Muses" as a result of her research and level of maturity in bellydance.  Since 2004, she has traveled regularly to Lebanon to choreograph major TV shows. This opportunity allows her to express both her western and oriental sides.

In 2008, Linda Faoro created the troup "L'Espèce Urbaine" ('Urbankind') and performed "Ma Maison ne ressemble pas à celle de ma Mère" ('My house looks nothing like my mother's'); a dance/dramatic solo in which she shares with audiences her background as a multicultural woman and artist.

In 2009, Linda Faoro participated in the first BellyFusions Festival in Paris, France, and took advantage of the occasion to meet other international artists of the Fusion Scene. While there, she teamed up with Anasma, and then, in 2010, with Amy Sigil of Unmata.  Both women urge her to export her style to the US.

What is Linda Faoro’s approach to teaching dance?

Linda attaches great importance to both the physical and mental fitness at the beginning of a dance session,  so that students are able to give and receive throughout the class.  The work is focused both on the accuracy of "technique and stylization," and on the overall energy of motion.  During the second part of a class,  she emphasizes the use of space with several dance proposals: going across the floor, improvisational work, or choreographic research.  Linda believes that the student/dancer must learn to respect the dance movement being "imposed" on him, while, at the same time, be able to develop their own dance.

What is "Faoro BellyFusion?

It is the logical evolution of Linda's journey, culminating in what she calls "Jazz New School" - a style based on the rigorous academics and technical movements of Jazz, that also includes a unique and subtle fusion of additional styles of dance (modern / hip-hop/afro / East).   Linda is inspired by today's music, which also contains an increasingly rich mix of styles.  Her interest in these new musical fusions constantly pushes her to refine her own mixed style.  Linda's wish is to share the oriental dance in its pure form, as well as in the transcended form that has been influenced by new musical currents.  In this way, Linda is striving to establish a new choreography style.  Her work is mainly based on listening to the body and looking for different qualities of movements that are experienced when danced, as well as expressing different "states" in order to feel one’s whole body and develop greater freedom through dance.
